Real Help For Homeless
Denver’s Road Home and Mile High United Way is hosting its annual Project Homeless Connect on Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Colorado Convention Center downtown. The daylong event is a free resource fair for individuals and families who are homeless or are at-risk of becoming homeless. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to help individuals and families connect with needed services and resources. Services provided include Basic Medical Care, Legal Services and Homeless Court, IDs, Birth Certificates, Food Stamps, Wellness Services and many other community resources. The event generally draws upwards of 1,000 guests and 250 services providers. Volunteers are trained and work 1:1 with guests and in other capacities. Doors are open to guests from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

What’s Your Vision for Denver?
As Denver continues to grow and change, what are your hopes, ideas and concerns for the future of the city? Park Hill residents, along with other Denverites, are invited to share their vision for Denver and learn about four city plans that will help guide the future of the city for the next 20 years. Denveright is a community-driven planning process that challenges residents to shape how the city should evolve in four key areas: land use, mobility, parks, and recreational resources. Denver Seeking Ethics Pros
The Denver City Council is seeking qualified individuals to apply to serve on the City’s Board of Ethics. The new member will serve with four others on the board to oversee implementation of the Denver Code of Ethics. Applicants should submit a cover letter and resume, including two professional or community references, by Oct. 12. Dark & Obscure
Art Gym Denver, at 1460 Leyden St., presents Dark & Obscure, an exhibition juried by Art Gym Program Director Michael Keen. Dark & Obscure will explore the darker side of art by featuring artists concerned with topics of mortality, the afterlife and our perceptions of reality. The exhibition features the work of Carolyn Berry, Melanie Bindon, Chris Blume, Sarah Bouma, Raimondo Briata, Candice Corgan, Corey Crook, Corrina Espinosa, Anthony Fedele, Megan Frauenhoffer, Katie Gabriel, Erin Gilbert, Noble Hardesty, Lori Hellstrom, Katie Hoffman, Izzy Jarvis, Anna Kaminski, Marjorie J Lair, James Leger, Monika Lemmon, Jordan Lyn Fickling, Max Maddox, Cherish Marquez, Mark Pennington, Ingrid Porter, Desiree Richardson, Claudia Roulier, Rik Sargent, Kathleen Sherman, Kyle V Singer, and Kyra Weinkle. The exhibition will be on display Tuesdays to Saturdays, Oct. 6 to 29, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Walk Among The Dead
Learn about the mystery surrounding the Jones Mausoleum, find out what happened to the man who designed the Ivy Chapel and about the secret sorrow of the Bell Family, the tragic legend of the Lester Drake monument and other mysteries of early Colorado. Tours of Riverside Cemetery are Oct. 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29. Riverside Cemetery, the final resting place of many of Denver’s most notable characters, is at 5201 Brighton Blvd. Bring your flashlights and sense of adventure. CBWPA Luncheon Oct. 8
The Colorado Black Women for Political Action’s 38th Annual luncheon and awards ceremony is Saturday, Oct. 8. The Tribute to Black Women event will feature former Ohio State Sen. and Secretary of State candidate Nina Turner as keynote speaker. The luncheon is at the Renaissance Hotel Stapleton, 3801 Quebec St.; doors open at 11:15 am. The Colorado Black Women for Political Action will also recognize three generations of women and three families that have had an impact on the community in Colorado.
