Sholem Aleichem’s Legacy
As the much-loved and much-revived musical, “Fiddler on the Roof,” plays on Broadway, Colorado Hebrew Chorale is preparing a local celebration of Sholem Aleichem, the Yiddishism writer who created Tevye the Dairyman, the beloved central character of the musical. On Sunday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m., Colorado Hebrew Chorale presents “Sholem Aleichem in Story and Song: Celebrating the 100th Yahrtzeit of Sholem Aleichem” at the Sam Gary Branch Library, 2961 Roslyn St. This is a free public program and appropriate for all ages. Primarily known for his writings, which go well beyond his most familiar character, Tevye of “Fiddler on the Roof,” Sholem Aleichem requested that on the anniversary of his death people gather to share his joyous stories. A Flamboyance Of Flamingos
Let Girl Scout Troop 3573 help you surprise and delight a friend or family member with some friendly, pink plastic yard flamingos. Here’s how it works: On your instruction, the troop will migrate the flamingos to the recipient’s front yard. The flamingos roost there for 24 hours before flying off to another yard. From right now through Mother’s Day, the troop of 7th and 8th graders will stealthily plant small ($15), medium ($25), or large ($40) size flocks in the yard of the Park Hill or Stapleton resident you designate. For an order form, email troop3573@yahoo.com. All proceeds will be used for troop outdoor skill-building activities.

Angel Mentors For Next School Year
East High School’s A+ Angels Mentoring Program (www.aplusangels.org) is looking for new mentors to work with students who struggle academically and help close the achievement gap. Mentors help their student succeed in high school by building a relationship, working on organization and study skills, helping with homework, modeling advocacy, and providing encouragement and accountability. All mentors are volunteers and most work full time in jobs unrelated to education. Mentors are expected to attend a training program in late August and meet with their students once per week during an early morning study hall. Contact Aimee_Arens@dpsk12.org for more information and to apply.
