Bears in the Library
A familiar sight and sound to all of us at the Park Hill Library is a young child running with arms outstretched, squealing, “BEAR!” before tumbling into the soft and forgiving fur of our library bears, Bart and Chester.
Q. So, how did you two bears come to live at the library?
Bart: I moved here almost two years ago when my former roommate and retired library employee Annie said I could. Chester came from the same home just a few months ago.
Q: What do you do after the library closes?
Chester: We love to read books to one another. We also play with the magnetic letters on the librarian’s desk and the literacy bin toys.
Q: What is your favorite aspect of being a library bear?
Bart: Having kids read and talk to us.
Q: Chester, you are new to the Park Hill Branch Library. What would you like children to know about you?
Chester: I like to live up on the shelves, and I love to come down and play and read with the children. Library bears never bite.
Q: Who is your favorite bear in literature and why?
Bart: Paddington Bear is my third cousin once removed. I love reading about his adventures.
Chester: Winnie-the-Pooh is my hero! He is an expert on all my favorite things – friendship and snacks!
