All Aboard The A-Train
Review by Michael Reynolds
1. The view. Particularly if you start from Union Station, you get to see a side of the city you haven’t seen before by road and see more of it because you’re not busy driving.
2. Novelty. The train still has that fresh new train smell and perfectly unblemished surfaces.
3. Speed! The train gets up to 79 miles an hour to get you from 40th and Colorado to DIA in 26 minutes.
4. Parking is easy. There are 200 spaces at 40th and Colorado and 1,500 at Central Park. It’s $2 per day for folks who live in the Regional Transportation District. Pay at a kiosk, by phone, or online.
5. Convenient check-in. When you get to the airport, there’s a bag drop and a check-in kiosk immediately available on train level.
In the immortal words of Duke Ellington, “All aboard, get on the A-train.”
Editor’s Note: The A-Train opened to much fanfare on April 22, connecting Union Station with Denver International Airport, with stops near Park Hill at 40th and Colorado Boulevard, and Central Park Station at Smith Road and Central Park Boulevard. Cost is $9, and it’s $2 per night to leave your car at the park-n-rides. For fares and schedule information, check out RTD-Denver.com
