Access the Library 24/7
A regular customer at the Park Hill Branch Library came in and was happy that the passing of ballet issue 2A will allow the Park Hill Branch Library and the Pauline Robinson Brach Library to be open an additional two days a week starting sometime during the first half of 2013. He joked that we should be open 24/7. I missed my opportunity to point out that with your library card and access to the internet you can take advantage of many of the libraries services, day or night.
Not only can you place holds on books or other items to pick up later, but you can also gain free access to databases which include Chilton car and truck repair manuals, Consumer Reports magazine, and a language learning course called Mango Languages. I recommend you try out their Pirate course just for fun!
Do you have a big test coming up? You can also find practice exams and course materials from Learning Express Library for a variety of tests such as the SAT, GED, MCAT or Advanced Placement practice exams. Need financial information? Use your library card to gain free access to investing sites such as Value Line and Morning Star. I’ve recently used the Gale Legal Forms database which allows downloadable, printable forms that comply with the laws of Colorado. Do you have a child you need to entertain? Try TumbleBook Library, an online collection of animated, talking books for kids.
Sometimes your need for information doesn’t happen during library hours and it’s good to know that there is an alternative, reliable source of information just a few clicks away.
Bonus: some of the databases have apps for iPhones and android. Note: for a couple of databases such as Ancestry Library Edition and Colorado Grants Guide Online you need to use a library computer at one of the branches to gain access.
