21st Century Energy Upgrades for 1900s-era Homes
By Casey Staley, REenergizeCO’s Certified Building Science Analyst
REenergizeCO INC has been working in Park Hill this past month, performing energy audits and improvements on some of the neighborhoods old housing stock. Accredited by Xcel Energy’s Home Energy Audit program and empowered by Denver Energy Challenge grants, our company is one of many who can facilitate up to $1,000 in energy audit and upgrade credits.
You probably already know that your 1920’s home is in need of more insulation or weather stripping. What you don’t know is that a blower door test can find true building science errors like open interior walls, air infiltration or failing duct work. Coupled with a state-of-the-art infrared camera, REenergizeCO can see inside of your walls to diagnose how the structure is performing as a whole.
Once the house has been tested, REenergizeCO gives a full report on the home. The homeowner can prioritize what improvements are needed and evaluate what rebates apply. Houses built in the early 1900’s usually save 15%-20% on their utility bills after an energy upgrade.
