Garden in a Box

2017-18 Program

On Saturday, May 13, we handed out 50 garden in a box kits, plus additional seeds and seedlings to over 60 gardeners and had six gardeners volunteer in our GPHC Food Pantry Garden to grow food for our food pantry and farm stand. Join us for one of our educational events listed on our GIB Calendar of Workshops 17-18.

Our next workshop “DIY Pest Reduction Workshop and Garden Swap” will be on Wednesday, July 19th from 6pm-7:30pm at GPHC 2823 Fairfax Street. Join us for our for the first Garden in a Box Workshop of the 2017-18 growing season! We’ll be sharing surefire ways to stop pests without using harmful pesticides. Bonus: bring any veggies from your garden that you want to trade with someone else! We’ll be having giveaways–gardening books and gift cards to Ace on the Fax.

Thank you to our 2017-18 Sponsors!

Councilman Christopher Herndon, District 8 Representative

History of the Program

Since 2016, we have been encouraging new gardeners to try their hand at growing their own food. Each spring we distribute Garden In a Box kits that include seedlings, seeds, instructions, and other tools to help gardeners grow vegetables in a 4×4 plot. Throughout the year we offer an educational workshop series providing information about gardening. Topics covered have included DIY Pest Reduction, Winterizing Your Garden, and Starting Seeds Indoors.

Please follow us on Facebook to find out more about our Garden in a Box giveaway and educational events.

If you are interested in participating in our 2018-19 Garden in a Box Giveaway, please email and we’ll add you to our email list, which will have the first chance to sign up for a Garden in a Box kit next spring!

Past events have covered topics including:
